Doppler Ray Mama

Indigo lights
In the Milky Way clouds
Whirling in flights
In barely seen crowds

Where Doppler rays bend
Weary, deep red
At the ultimate end
Of the dead and undead.

Pour mist from that beaker
Of nitrogen gas
Pilgrim and seeker
Of substance and mass

If the rocket’s a wreck
Our engines long perished
So is the trek
You’d lived for and cherished.

Float into ooze
It’s murky and thick
With nothing to lose
The gas has a kick.

Look, there is the crest
Of the black-purple slope
You’re not depressed
I never had hope.

You used to be manic
You dreamt of your mission.
Now you’re long beyond panic
Worry, ambition.

We plummet and fall
There’s never a bottom
The cosmos is small.
We’re hardly an atom.

Super String Mama

I don’t know what you end, where the hell I begin
We’re not only buck naked, honey; we don’t have hair or skin.
We’re an infinite monster; God knows we’re never apart.
We’re so close you’re behind me, locked in my backbone and heart.

We’re both beer and guzzler in a fast food revel on Mars.
We’re honey-dipped chickens and colonels ascending, motes in the stars.
I’m your dog, your boss, your bath mat, table and chair
I’m demons that itch, dying gods that are never there.

I’m a hamburger, catsup, the pickles deluxe where you dine
You love your old grandpa? Well, maybe it could be mine.
We’re more than married, baby; hey, we’re really the same.
We’re the universal griffon, a dragon without a name.

I’m an earthquake, the weather, your future, your secret life
I’m your enemy, lover, landlord, husband and wife.
I’m a cure for cancer; I put you in bed with the flu.
I’m nothing you don’t know, nothing you never knew.

We’re blips in the ether, an eddy of salt in the sea
You think you’re you? Mostly you’re you and me:
We’re super-string lovers; we dance in a hydrogen revel:
An orgy of angels, maybe a passing devil.

Pythagorean Serenade

I’ve listened to music from Pluto and Mars
In honky tonk joints and high class bars
Shuffled to clusters of tones from the stars
I never heard nothing like you.

In the whirl of the moons as Jupiter sings
Uranus crowns Venus with Saturn’s brass rings
You chant like the sunlight, a comet with wings
You and your galaxies too.

Mercury chants with a chorus of boys.
Andromeda growls in an ocean of noise.
You warble a vaporous ballad of poise
While you carol the cosmic story.

Let’s bawl out your anthems that echo all space
Dust tunes which whisper a ghostly embrace
Melodies greased with lugubrious grace
Lave our arbors of ether with glory.

Neutron Star

I used to travel much faster than light
You couldn’t see me; I lived beyond sight.
When I saw you implode, I felt a faint crush.
If this is love, honey it’s swampy as slush.

I’m used to floating through vapor and dust.
I rocket past planets, kiss moons when I must.
Our galaxy’s full of black motes on the take.
You’re a dark nut; no, you’re much more opaque.

Your gravity pulls me like wasps to a spider
My ship’s getting smaller, my uniform’s tighter.
You’re gobbling neutrons; I hear their husks popping.
Time’s slowed down so much; it seems to be stopping.

Let’s keep life much lighter before we expire.
Let us be hydrogen, ether and fire.
I can see your point in a journey within;
Celestial affairs if too dense are a sin.

Our inner life, honey, is lightless and stale.
Narrow and close, only fit for a snail.
Let’s travel to Io, breathe in some fresh air;
One small explosion will rocket us there!

Kali’s Bed

When you sleep
In Kali’s bed
You plumb her deep
Beyond the dead

Her chamber’s lined
With skulls and bone
You won’t find
A soul you’ve known

Vermillion stars
In her eyes
Avatars
Of perished cries.

As you touch
Her dark blue skin
You’ll feel much
Black blood within.

Let her flower
In your death
In a sour
Hiss of breath.

As you kiss
Her bloody face
You’ll hear all this
Beyond all space.

Within that great
Galactic blast
Love and hate
Is gone and past.

U.F.O. Serenade

We’ll take you away from this scurvy dump.
One’s either corrupt or dirt poor
Sometimes you’re sacking an alien rump
A waltz in a perfumed sewer
Everything served on a fast food bun
Then a quickie in back of a heap.
You’ll have a life on Mars and the sun
It’s free and the wine is cheap.

Say that we’re evil, malicious or loons
Gibbering, caroling lunatic tunes
Martian bugs offering magical boons
Call us abductors, alien goons.
You’d be better off sacking the worst of our moons.

You can do better than truffles or spam
Starvation, or suburbs, bad plumbing
Lovers who sue, who don’t give a damn
Kids who are dying or dumbing
Mortgages, money and movie religions
Fries in a plastic cup
Trivial hopes, minuscule decisions
Prices that only go up.

Say that we’re evil, malicious or loons
Gibbering, caroling lunatic tunes
Martian bugs offering magical boons
Call us abductors, alien goons.
You’d be better off sacking the worst of our moons.

Some say our prey are mischievous cranks
They stick them in crazy house cells.
Since we’re monsters we hardly get money or thanks
For wafting our guests from their hells.
Come soar into space; we’ve a methane lake
Which heals all the woes of your past
Then our vaporous lovers will serve you cake.
You’ll be sated and happy at last.

Say that we’re evil, malicious or loons
Gibbering, caroling lunatic tunes
Martian bugs offering magical boons
Call us abductors, alien goons.
You’d be better off sacking the worst of our moons.

Subatomic Lover

Just a neutrino, I hardly exist.
I peek in and out of a limitless mist
Making my point in some mirrored machine;
I’m lurking in darkness, unknown and unseen.

You watch neutrons wriggle, flutter and shimmer
Electrons that shake as they glitter and glimmer
Maundering somewhere in ultimate slime;
At least you are sure they are there all the time.

Scientists murmur, I lack a locality
I’m never quite real, a half of reality.
I’m normal and dull, uncanny and strange.
Aery as truth, also out of your range.

Have Not Blues

I’m a millionaire in a Have Not nation.
I own most of you and the rest of Creation.
I’m not saying this with fury or malice
Too many thieves are robbing the palace.
They’ve been in the news.
They’ve got those Have Not blues.

Somebody walked off with my two Van Goghs
Two gospels of Jesus no one knows
The peacock roast, the pheasant souffle
The whole damned chapel where my servants pray.
They’ve been in the news.
They’ve got those Have Not blues.

I don’t care; I can always get more.
To me the world’s a convenience store.
They stole my Jacuzzi and my last ex-wife
They’re not going to love what they took from my life.
They’ve been in the news.
They’ve got those Have Not blues.

I watch them in the shadows on cable t-v
They steal what they can from you and me.
Sometimes they get you with long knives and axes
Sometimes they’re elected and hit you with taxes.
They’ve been in the news.
They’ve got those Have Not blues.

Too Much Money Blues

Nobody I know works too hard
They all play bingo with a plastic card
Some used to say you earn what you get
They never knew about no-fault debt
I got too much money.
I got too much money.
I got too much money and godamn it, so do you.

You think it’s a dream, a little fantastic
No credit on Earth could be so elastic
Nobody’s nasty, few are sarcastic
We go to the mall, buy up the plastic
I got too much money.
I got too much money.
I got too much money and godamn it, so do you.

I just bought a dog and a couple of rifles
A car and a ranches, a few other trifles
Romanian twins, a maid from Peru
Anything else that’s packaged and new
I got too much money.
I got too much money.
I got too much money and godamn it, so do you.

I’d like to shop in the world of the stars
Buy up the people on Venus and Mars
Put a down payment on heaven and hell
Would I buy up God? You never can tell.
I got too much money.
I got too much money.
I got too much money and godamn it, so do you.
